About the port
- Access & Geography
Access to the Port of Gothenburg is, by definition, two-fold: by land and by sea.
Most activities at the port involve both.

BY ROAD
The Port of
Gothenburg
is linked to its hinterland by two motorways, the E6 (from the north and south) and the E20 (from the north-east). National Highway 40 (from the east) is of motorway standard, while National Highway 45 (from the north/north-east) is a dual carriageway. In
Gothenburg
, the River Göta is crossed by four road bridges and one road tunnel
as well as one railroad bridge
. There are ring roads from several directions leading to the main port facilities.
BY SEA AND RIVER
Access from the sea is by means of two fairways: Torshamnsleden or the Torshamnen Fairway for large vessels and Böttöleden, or the Böttö Fairway, for regular-sized vessels.
The River Göta fairway offers access from Lake Vänern and River Göta ports.
BY RAIL
Rail access to the Port of
Gothenburg
is provided by double-track trunk lines from the north, south and the north-east. Single-track railway lines connect to the north/north-east and the east. Several independent operators offer frequent rail services to and from
Gothenburg
. Sweden's busiest railway cargo station is located at the on-dock-rail facility at the Container Terminal - the Nordic container centre.
